Shakespeare's Globe Theatre to Make First Irish Appearance
Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre is set to make it’s first appearance in Ireland this summer as part of the Kilkenny Arts Festival. The touring company will perform Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” in an outdoor setting at the festival as part of a European tour of the production.
The production will run from August 10 through 19 and will be held in the Crafts Council of Ireland Courtyard, which was originally the stables of Kilkenny Castle. The play itself will be performed on an Elizabethan inspired stage, recreated from etchings and paintings from Shakespeare’s time.
Festival organizers are excited to have the internationally acclaimed theatre group gracing the city of Kilkenny.
“We’re thrilled to be bringing Shakespeare’s Globe to Ireland for the first time,” said artistic director Rosemary Collier. “The festival is about bringing the most innovative and dynamic cultural events to the city and the Globe certainly fits the bill.”
Though news of the production was just released today, theatre lovers are already voicing their excitement:
