When the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Came to Dublin
Remember the episode of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when they came to Ireland in the 1990s?
An episode of the classic children’s TV show – at the time, one of the biggest franchises in the world – takes place in Dublin and around the Irish countryside. The plot? Well ...
April O’Neill is supposed to be doing a report on leprechauns, Shredder and Krang transform the animals from the Irish landscape into monsters (using an evil rainbow machine), they take over an Irish castle as the turtles' base, there’s a deadly sheep stampede, and much more.
Watch it here (with European subtitles):
The episode first aired on 19 September, 1993, as part of the Turtles' ‘European vacation’ storyline, often referred to as a side-season. The story arc was made at the same time as season four of the show, but not aired until season seven.
They also went to The UK, France, Austria, Italy, Portugal, Turkey, the Netherlands, Norway and the UK.
Dublin Zoo and St Stephen’s green look pretty convincing!
