Amy Winehouse Foundation Shows Support for London Irish Centre
The London Irish Centre this week announced a new partnership with the Amy Winehouse Foundation in a collaboration to provide an advice service to young Irish people living in London. The first stage of the project includes the publication of a new document for Irish people who have recently moved to London. Amy’s father, Mitch and his wife, Jane, are set to launch the project from the Irish centre in Camden this Thursday.
The Foundation’s relationship with the London Irish Centre began when Mitch Winehouse switched on the Centre’s Christmas tree lights in Camden Square in December 2011.
Amy died in north London in July 2011, but before she passed away she often sat on the wall of the London Irish Centre, near her Camden home, chatting to neighbours.
According to Amy’s dad she walked past the Irish Centre every day that she was living there. He said the place "meant an awful lot to Amy and to the family.”
The Amy Winehouse Foundation is funding an advice service for younger Irish migrants at risk as a result of poorly planned migration. A new publication is also being released…
The first stage of this project is an important new publication, Moving to London: A Practical Companion for Irish People. The handbook contains information on finding housing, employment, getting help in a crisis, using health services and many other areas of interest for potential migrants. The booklet also contains advice from Irish people who have moved to London in the last 18 months.
The Director of Welfare, Jeff Moore, said “Since the recession we have seen a substantial increase in the number of individuals living in Ireland who are looking for information on moving to London. This booklet is our direct and accessible response to this need”.
You can view the handbook online here.
