So we lost the match last night with Spain winning by four goals to nil but Irish fans kept the spirit alive with their displays of support for the boys in green. Thousands of Irish football fans took over Gdansk for the Euro 2012 match, and for many the talking point of the game was the emotional rendition of the Fields of Athenry in the final minutes. Not all of the fans got it exactly right. Mark Tighe, a journalist with the Sunday Times in Ireland, wrote – “Met this Irish fan yesterday who got an Ivory Coast flag painted on his face by mistake”…
