A young talented girl has become a double gold winning javelin thrower after scooping medals at the Dublin Community games recently.

12-year-old Rebecca Power entered the under-16 javelin championship because there wasn’t any under-13 competition taking place.

After earlier taking the title for her athletics’ club she went on to win the under-16 championship and made it a double gold winning day.

Rebecca’s main focus is actually skiing and her javelin interest came as a way to keep fit during the year when she’s not on the slopes.

She started skiing on a family holiday in Austria three years ago. As soon as she got home from the holiday, Rebecca joined the ski club of Ireland at Kilternan.

She has also represented Ireland in Italy at the children’s world championships in February.

Rebecca trains most days with the Lambay sports academy in Donabate. Next month sees her travel to the under-13 javelin championships in Tullamore.

You can follow Lambay Sports Academy, where Rebecca trains on Facebook to keep up to date on her progress.
