Classical violinist Yuki Nishioka who is from Japan and living in Limerick, has issued an appeal offering a reward for the return of her Hungarian violin, which was stolen from the boot of her car in Gouldavoher last weekend.

Yuki, who has been playing the violin from a very young age, is currently teaching with the Sing Out With Strings programme, which brings free music workshops and tuition to primary schools in Limerick’s Regeneration areas in conjunction with the Irish Chamber Orchestra.

Limerick Regeneration is a government funded initiative to address problems of socioeconomic deprivation in key areas of Limerick City. I need the violin to teach the 300kids here.

From Yuki Nishioka

She explains that the return of her violin would mean a great deal to her.

“My grandmother gave me the violin when I left Japan years ago. She loves travel, and used to do it all over the world. She wanted to come over to ireland with me but she could not. She could headly walk now. She is 85 years old, her legs are very sore.”

Yuki explains; “She gave me the violin as a charm of safe trip and for sharing music with people all over the world. The violin is very sentimental violin. More than value.”

According to the Limerick Leader:

Yuki is mystified why the thieves stole this instrument but left a viola, which was in the back seat, behind.

From Limerick Leader

Yuki said the thieves struck in the early hours of Saturday morning 30 June. She wishes for its safe return.
