Famous Lunch atop a Skyscraper Photo Re-Created in Galway
It’s one of the most famous photographs in the world depicting 11 construction workers eating their lunch while balancing on a beam of a skyscraper 850ft above Manhattan.
The image, taken in 1932 by Charles C Ebbets during construction of the RCA Building, is said to feature two emigrants from Shanaglish, near Gort, Co Galway.
Yesterday, in Eyre Square, Galway, the photo was re-created, a little closer to ground level, for an upcoming documentary by TG4. “The documentary Lon sa Speir or “Lunch in the Sky” will trace the lives of the men on the beam.
Lon sa Speir is being shown as part of the Galway Film Fleadh, which is taking place this week.
