Peter O'Toole Retires. Here he is on a Camel.
Story by Alan Ryan
Irish stage and screen actor Peter O’Toole has announced his retirement from the business. Most notably recognised for playing T.E. Lawrence in Lawrence of Arabia and being nominated for eight academy awards O’Toole has had a memorable career that has spanned the past number of decades.
His announcement came in the form of a statement that included “It is time for me to chuck in the sponge. To retire from films and stage. The heart for it has gone out of me: it won’t come back.”
The BAFTA, Golden Globe and Emmy award winner also went on to say "My professional acting life, stage and screen, has brought me public support, emotional fulfilment and material comfort. It has brought me together with fine people, good companions with whom I’ve shared the inevitable lot of all actors: flops and hits.”
Many felt saddened by Peter O’Toole’s announcement:
After hearing of O’Toole’s decision to retire we thought there was no better time to resurrect this video of him making a fashionable entrance to the David Letterman show in 1995:
