Cork Shows Off in Record-Breaking Body Painting Event
Story by Dave Molloy
Cork citizens stripped to their underwear to break a World Record over the weekend: the largest crowd of body-painted people.
More than 300 people turned up to be stripped down and brightly painted for the cameras in the centre of Cork, smashing the existing record for “most bodies painted” of 246 people.
The organisers are confident they’ve beaten that number with a turnout of 316 people on Saturday – but they are waiting on the official “sign-off” from Guinness World Records.
Participants in the event also had the chance to go on tour around Cork during the city’s annual naked bike ride later that day. The event is designed to demonstrate how vulnerable cyclists can be on the road. They certainly attracted some attention!
The event was organised by Keira O’Connell, and took place in Cork’s Camden Palace Hotel. There was a mild panic about the shortage of male thongs in the city on Friday, according to the Irish Examiner , but disaster was averted when it was announced that jockstraps and Y-fronts were just as acceptable.
The event wasn’t universally popular, though:
While for others, it was just a regular day in the city.
Did you see the cyclists on the streets or take part?
