A ladies Gaelic football club in Philadelphia will join together in solidarity with Alisha Jordan this Sunday night as the Meath native continues her recovery from a horrific assault in New York just over a fortnight ago.

The 21-year-old Cavan-New York player was randomly attacked on her way home from a night out near her Woodlawn home in the Bronx and will require reconstructive surgery on her skull, which her assailant broke during the unprovoked assault with a concrete block.

Although Notre Dame LGFC have never played against a team in which Jordan was involved, club secretary and player Ciara Trainor told WorldIrish the Northeast Philadelphia-based outfit was standing in solidarity with a fellow GAA-member.

“We want to show support and stand behind her during this difficult time,” said 23-year-old Trainor whose parents hail from Tyrone.

“We were all shocked by the attack and we just decided to get together and try and help out. We have had a huge response from people in New York and Boston, even from Ireland.”

The fundraiser will take place at Daly’s Pub on Comly St in Philly.

Jordan’s home club in Skryne, Co Meath, will also host a night for her on Friday, 1 August.
