After the New York City Marathon was cancelled due to the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy, few people laid eyes on the medals for the event. But participants in the New York Dublin Marathon yesterday got to take one of the rare medals home.

The event was a special, closed event organised by the Dublin Marathon team for people who had registered for the New York Marathon, but could not compete because of the cancellation.

The 147 finishers completed the course in times between 2:43:48 and 06:23:29. First past the line was Wayne Reid - full preliminary results are available at the Dublin Marathon Facebook page.
