From 12 noon to 5pm in Wolfe Tone Park, Dublin 1 tomorrow, 5,000 people will be fed a delicious, and free, hot vegetarian meal made from food that would otherwise have gone to waste.

120kg of cauliflower, 150kg of carrots, 150kg of potatoes and 80kg of cabbage will be used to make a feast for 5,000 people.

Posters for Feeding the 5K have been appearing around Dublin for the last couple of weeks.

Come along and be one of 5,000 Dubliners to enjoy a delicious hot vegetarian meal made entirely out of fresh misshapen vegetables that would otherwise go to waste and wash it down with scrumptious apple juice made from wonky but wonderful apples that would otherwise go unloved in orchards across the country.

The aim of the event is to raise awareness about the scale of the problem of food waste in Ireland and internationally and highlight how businesses, governments and individuals can help.

The event is organised and supported by Voice of Irish Concern for the Environment (VOICE), STOP Food Waste, Bia Food Bank and Food Glorious Food.

On tomorrow's menu is a vegetarian curry cooked by Para, a veteran caterer from UK-based charity ‘Food for All’. Freshly pressed apple juice will complement the curry.

Cooking demonstrations will be conducted by Tony Keogh of Cornucopia Restaurant, Sian Breslin from Sian’s Plan and Maggie Lynch from the Soul Food Company.
