Meteor Choice Music Prize Announce Shortlist

The Meteor Choice Music Prize shortlist has been announced, highlighting 10 impressive nominees for the Irish album of the year. The list of 10 albums sheds light on some of the amazing musical talent that Ireland has to offer. The award spans a variety of genres, bringing some of the best in homegrown music to the attention of the Irish world. The Meteor Choice Music Prize Live Event will be held at the Olympia Theatre on Thursday, March 8. Tickets go on sale from Friday, Jan 13 and can be purchased here. Tieranniesaur’s self titled debut album was one of the lucky few to make the cut. Check out the bizarre official music video for the tune “Here be Monsters”:

We Cut Corners released their album Today I Realised I Could Go Home Backwards in November 2011 and it also made the shortlist. Have a listen to “Go Easy” from the debut album:

The Japanese Popstars album Controlling Your Allegiance also made the cut. Have a listen to “Shells of Silver” off this album. The track also features James Vincent Mcmorrow.

Patrick Kelleher And His Cold Dead Hands launched their nominated album Golden Syrup at the Grand Social in Dublin in July. Watch a live performance of “Seen Me Blue”:

Irish band Cashier No. 9’s album To the Death of Fun made the shortlist. Have a listen to “Oh Pity”:

And So I Watch You from Afar played through their entire album Gangs (which was also nominated for the award) at the Start Together studio in Belfast. Have a listen to this great rendition of “BeautifulUniverseMasterChampion”:

The album Bloodless Coup from Bell X1 has also made the list. Have a listen to the band’s hit song “Velcro”:

So who do you think will win the award? Get in with a chance to see for yourself with our competition. We have two sets of tickets to the live event in the Olympia Theatre and three complete sets of Choice Prize nominated albums to give away. All you have to do is decide which prize you’d prefer – the tickets or the albums.
