Pint-Sized Irish Dancer Grooves to Michael Jackson
An eight-year-old Irish dancer brought some unique moves to the traditional dancing scene as she grooved to Michael Jackson’s ‘Smooth Criminal’ at the Foyleside Shopping Centre in Derry. The skilled little dancer channelled the King of Pop in the unforgettable performance, which ran as part of a showcase for Pineapple Dance Studios late last week.
The video is already causing quite a stir online, racking up thousands of views since it was first posted on April 6.

The dancer is eight-year-old Derry native Kate McCafferty. She and her family were surprised to see the video gain so much attention online. According to her mother Nuala in a recent interview:
“We are absolutely flabbergasted at the response to this. Kate and her aunt Ailish had been working on this dance routine for a while. Ailish had wanted to do something different for the showcase. She thought having Kate Irish dance to Michael Jackson would be a great idea. She choreographed the whole thing and made Kate’s outfit. It worked so well, even the Pineapple Dance Studio judges were amazed. They were on their feet at the end of it cheering away for her.
