Carmel O'Callaghan

Born in the UK to Irish Immigrant parents from Cork City, I am the 6th of 7 children. I spent every summer of my youth in Cork and visited my paternal cousins in Co Waterford at their farms. They are direct descendants of the Mountainy People. My grandfather was in the RIC until about 1919 and it had been frowned upon that he married a farm girl. They set up home in Cork City and my father was born in 1936, youngest of 6 children. My mother was born in Cork City in 1939, eldest of 10 children. Her father worked as a shoemaker in the Lee Boot Co. My maternal family have lived in Cork City for centuries but my paternal family were all Police officers so moved from county to county, but I understand have always stayed in Munster.
