Actor Daniel Day-Lewis, a Kerry producer and an Armagh cinematographer receive Oscar nominations

Daniel Day-Lewis has received a best actor nod for his portrayal of US President Abraham Lincoln at the 85th Oscars nomination ceremony in Los Angeles.
The 55-year-old London-born actor, who has Irish citizenship and lives in Co Wicklow, will go head to head with Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook), Hugh Jackman (Les Misérables), Joaquin Phoenix (The Master) and Denzel Washington (Flight) in the same category. Day-Lewis has previously been nominated four times in the best actor category, winning twice for My Left Foot and There Will Be Blood.
His film Lincoln has been nominated 12 times overall, including in the best picture category, alongside Amour, Argo, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Django Unchained, Les Misérables, Life of Pi, Silver Linings Playbook and Zero Dark Thirty.

Elsewhere there will be Irish interest on the night in both the cinematography and the animated short film categories.
Seamus McGarvey

Armagh man Seamus McGarvey was nominated for his cinematography in Anna Karenina, a film based on Leo Tolstoy's 1877 novel of the same name. This is the second Academy Award nomination for Seamus in this category. He was previously nominated for Atonement in 2007.
Kerry producer Fodhla Cronin O'Reilly received a nomination for her animated short film Head Over Heels. She made it alongside the American writer-director Timothy Reckart, with the help of the National Film and Television School in the UK.
According to its official synopsis, it tells the story of the emotional distance between a long-married husband and wife which has resulted in an unusual living arrangement.
