26 things to love about being Irish
1. We've got real milk
None of that UHT nonsense!
2. We know everyone
There's something very reassuring about knowing no matter where we go in the world we'll always bump into someone we know, or at least share a friend with.
Is it because we're friendly? Well travelled? Because there's not that many of us? Probably a little of all those.
3. This...
Potato man.
4. Eurovision
We were great at it once upon a time.
5. We can lay claim to everyone
Should anyone refer to an Irish person as 'British' then they shall face the wrath of thousands but that doesn't stop us from laying claim to every person with even a hint of Irish blood in them.
Just the 80 million and counting.

6. Gary Breen
I'll let these South Korean schoolkids explain.
7. Community spirit
We're a tight-knit bunch and one thing that's definitely a great Irish boon is our togetherness and willingness to work to help a brother out.
Perhaps it died out a little during the Celtic Tiger but every weekend sports clubs up and down the country have people volunteering to help out. There are countless community groups, charities, get-togethers, parish fundraisers, and lots more examples of Irish people looking out for each other.
8. The mystery of the mud angel
I'm beginning to doubt my ability to write anything without mentioning Father Ted at least once.
9. Dustin's musical genius
I've been to Tullamore but I've never been to Meath!
10.You can use your Irishness to chat up young ones abroad
Unfortunately I've never got try this out but I have it on good authority that if you arrive into a bar anywhere in the US that isn't along the east coast, you will instantly be the centre of attention.
Some say even a man with a thick Cavan would even have the gift woo-manship in such an establishment.
12. Irish music
We have a nation of musicians to rival any other country in the world. From the parish hall to the concert hall, from the humble fiddle player to U2, it's something which any Irish person can be proud of.
13. We have a two time WWE Champion
OK OK I know it's scripted but you know what? So are films and you don't hear Brendan Gleeson and the likes get criticised when they win awards.
Sheamus (Stephen Farrelly) is a two time WWE Champion, one time World Heavyweight Champion, King of the Ring and Royal Rumble winner. So whatever way you look at it the kid from North St George's Street has done well for himself.
WWE Raw 3rd December 2012 John Cena and Sheamus...by f10000454101858014. Making fun of people with misconceptions about Ireland
No we don't have leprechauns, we don't say 'top of the mornin' to ye' and we definitely all don't live in thatched cottages!
15. Mammy
If it weren't for Irish mammies where would we be as a race? Weeping into a undercooked bowl of nothingness whilst dressed in tethered clothes and sporting unkempt hair is my guess.
They never stop raising us. Even when we're in our 40s we're still seeking advice on everything. Should we throw out the chicken we bought eight days ago, how does one get rid of an ink stain on a shirt, should my ear look this green ... the list of things that need an Irish mammy's input is endless.
16. We're great at making small talk
We often lament the amount of talk there is in Ireland about the weather but it's mostly down to our constant desire to do more than just exchange simple hellos with people we meet. So in the way it's a great thing.
We're a nation of chatterboxes and if you ask any tourists who visit they see it as a lovely quality.
17. Riverdance
The Irish have the strongest toes of all mankind!
18. We take over the world
From the O'Higgins family in Chile to one time Governor of Louisiana Alejandro O'Reilly, the Irish have ruled the world. And it's not just in political office we do it either.
Whether it's the hundreds of parades worldwide on St Patrick's Day, the thousands of GAA players across the globe or Irish fans taking over every major sporting event we've been involved in since the dawn time, we are the one true superpower.
19 We love nothing more than to take the Mick out of our own kind
Self-deprecation is a talent we're all too good at.
20. Supermacs
God I'd murder a snackbox right now.

21. Brian O'Driscoll
Quite simply the best Irish rugby player of all time. In BOD we trust.
23. The lingo
Lord lantern Jaysis didn't my nephew, the Yank, put the heart crossways in me arrivin' in the door last night at half 5 this mornin, stocious and him tryin to snake some quare one into the bed with him, and her with her drawers round her ankles. He thought he got in aknownt of me, but he'll be getting a slap in the butt of the lug when he wakes up!
Here's a 35-phrase-strong dictionary for anyone who's confused.
24. We're a nation of extraordinary writers
From Oscar Wilde from Con Houlihan we have contributed some fantastic writers to the world of literature. The list is endless.
25. This photo...
Hurl-aween in Milwaukee. It never gets old.
26. We're never more than a half hour driving from being able to jump on bales of silage
Daddy! Daddy! Can I go up on top!?
