The @Ireland Twitter account rotates each week with a new voice introduced every Monday morning. As the Ireland of today is not confined to the island of Ireland, the varied voices of @Ireland come from Ireland and across the world.
Started in March 2012 and inspired by the @Sweden project, @Ireland is based around the idea that a single voice cannot represent a country. By sharing people's experiences and lives with the world, project custodians WorldIrish believe @Ireland can help to further connect Ireland to the world and the world to Ireland through the different voices that curate the account each week.
People can apply to be the voice of @Ireland for a week or can nominate a person they believe could represent Ireland. To apply or nominate someone email: [email protected]. If you are applying to curate @Ireland yourself please include the following in your email: your own Twitter account handle (username), your phone number and times/days that are convienient to contact you, a one-paragraph biog telling us about yourself and a 140-character description of why you would make a good @Ireland curator!
Follow @irelandI'm a working single mom of a 13-year-old boy, back in employment after a brush with redundancy and studying for, and surviving, an MBA. I have had an “interesting” career so far - been an animator, 3d modeller and graphic designer, worked in an urban design team, as a marketing manager for what was Ireland's biggest architecture firm before the crash, and have now reinvented myself as a management consultant. I feel a bit tired just telling that story… I firmly believe that change can be invigorating and inspiring, but it has to be scary change or it doesn’t count. That said there were times in the last couple of years when I wished my life had a bit more boring in it. I plan to tweet about what it’s like to live in Ireland today - both the bad times and the good as we adapt and transform ourselves. I would like to share stories of Irish people who are trying to adapt to this new Ireland - those who were born here or who have made Ireland their home, those who have left out of choice or necessity. But the beauty of Twitter is that it goes off on tangents like any conversation, so I will be quite content to go with the tweet-flow.

22:52 26th May 2012 - Link
Might be more useful to audit the Irish eurovision losers to work out what not to do but some other poor fecker can do that.
22:44 26th May 2012 - Link
. @ElroyK You have excellent taste
22:35 26th May 2012 - Link
You're welcome Irish Eurovision entry committee!
22:34 26th May 2012 - Link
The winning Irish Eurovision themes are; 1.Red hair (Linda, Niamh + Riverdance girl), 2.Johnny, 3.Neo-celtic stuff (Riverdance, the voice)
22:31 26th May 2012 - Link
So, after going through all those videos of our eurovision entries I have discerned some themes...
22:28 26th May 2012 - Link
We had a break because the eurovision was bankrupting us. Then this lttle riverdancey ditty was our last winner youtube.com/watch?v=0nJ3yQ…
22:27 26th May 2012 - Link
@GLarAuna :)
22:25 26th May 2012 - Link

22:16 26th May 2012 - Link

22:13 26th May 2012 - Link
@Birdon No, I think its Dutch or German
22:07 26th May 2012 - Link
Still waiting for a common theme to emerge from all these songs...apart from red haired loveliness...
22:05 26th May 2012 - Link
The following year another flame-haired temptress won - Niamh Kavanagh youtube.com/watch?v=jHE8a-… The build-up video is hilariously twee

21:44 26th May 2012 - Link
@GLarAuna *looks at feet, shuffles nervously*
21:38 26th May 2012 - Link
Was the Swedish song the ibizan club-anthem one? Once a POWERBALLAD doesn't win...
21:30 26th May 2012 - Link
Wouldn'y it be mad if Greece won... I think Merkel's head might explode...
21:29 26th May 2012 - Link
Thank god the voting has started, because this is not " its so bad its funny"
21:27 26th May 2012 - Link
5 years after "Hold me now" came Ireland's greatest achievement ever - 3 straight wins, a little suss and another win. (I'm a tad bored)
21:23 26th May 2012 - Link
@NonyFitz stylish pair :)
21:22 26th May 2012 - Link
And here's Johnny! youtube.com/watch?v=M6Rjdi…
21:14 26th May 2012 - Link
I remember I thought Linda Martin's hair was cool and, do you know what, it kinda was
21:13 26th May 2012 - Link
@watermusician I had a bit of a crush on him, before I even knew what a crush was!
21:12 26th May 2012 - Link
. @Stello Maybe the amazingness was just too much in one go and my brain blocked it out to preserve my sanity
21:06 26th May 2012 - Link
The grannies still get my vote. Was the oven an added thing tonight? Or was I so stunned by them the first night that I missed it?
21:03 26th May 2012 - Link
In 1984 Linda Martin came second and the song was written by Mr Logan. They are both eurovision royalty youtube.com/watch?v=MkDKRN…

20:42 26th May 2012 - Link

20:28 26th May 2012 - Link

20:25 26th May 2012 - Link
We may have to go down memeory lane to find out...
20:23 26th May 2012 - Link
So Ireland are the best at Eurovision (or were anyway), I asked this earlier in the week but am asking again...why are we so good?
20:10 26th May 2012 - Link
So does anybody know who the Dutch brass band are? What are they called??
20:09 26th May 2012 - Link
@suzephelan All I know is that they are Dutch. And that they rocked. I will send out a callon the twitter machine...
20:02 26th May 2012 - Link
Though we didn't dissect one essential part of Irishness - the MAMMY
20:01 26th May 2012 - Link
. @LucerneBelle MORTO!

@LeedsBookClub Thats really lovely, have a fab time :)
19:59 26th May 2012 - Link
But I have really enjoyed the Irish stuff, and though we are fond of these signs of Irishness we nevertheless don't take them too seriously
19:55 26th May 2012 - Link
Oh god, another power ballad...I just don't believe you feel that level of emotion about whatever you are singing about...#bigmeanie
19:51 26th May 2012 - Link
And the biggest symbol of Irishness - the pint of guiness...
19:50 26th May 2012 - Link
When I started this curation lark I didn't expect to be so "Irish" - tea, eurovision, Ted, Irish footie, tayto and dairy milk...
19:46 26th May 2012 - Link
Right all fed and watered. Eurovision, what joys await us? Anybody out there watching too?
19:23 26th May 2012 - Link
Just home, eat my dinner and then Eurovision fun for all the family.
18:05 26th May 2012 - Link
@metaos @curraghrace would you let me in with THAT hat ;)
18:03 26th May 2012 - Link

21:31 23rd May 2012 - Link
@m2thefizzle We have no room for slackers here ;)
21:30 23rd May 2012 - Link
. @NonyFitz I may exaggerate a tad...but teens do need more sleep than grown-ups seemingly, their brain is changing etc
21:27 23rd May 2012 - Link
@daveleavy1 :)
21:27 23rd May 2012 - Link
@mixtwitch Woooohooooo!
21:25 23rd May 2012 - Link
@mixtwitch Are you moving for a job?
21:25 23rd May 2012 - Link
@mixtwitch Oh wow! How do you feel about the move? I lived in London for years, loved it but came home...
21:23 23rd May 2012 - Link
@mychefathome @tnteacherTim @Clareconway @tryAthy Yay!
21:23 23rd May 2012 - Link
. @NonyFitz Buffy on the DVD here, teen snoozing beside me on the couch, actually kinda blissful
21:19 23rd May 2012 - Link
@brianmcd87 Priorities people!
21:18 23rd May 2012 - Link
@iandevlin @necolas Yes, @ireland is also the mostest democratic twitter account in the world, my @maoiliosak turn this week...
21:15 23rd May 2012 - Link
@mtobinod leave work now and go out in the sun. I'll write you a note.
21:14 23rd May 2012 - Link
@fhayesmccoy Had weird fog in Bray yesterday morning, but it was picturesque fog not stop you from driving fog...
21:06 23rd May 2012 - Link
. @AnseoAMuinteoir Oh thank you. Was getting a little maudlin.
21:04 23rd May 2012 - Link
Are you all out in the pub/garden/park? Do none of you have a phone? Ignore your loved ones, tweet me!
21:02 23rd May 2012 - Link
@conorleeson Ooooh, thats not fair! tell me NOW!
20:55 23rd May 2012 - Link
@filip_vanas I'm only telling the truth :)
20:53 23rd May 2012 - Link
@trinaod You're very kind
20:52 23rd May 2012 - Link
Yis are all very quiet tonight, I may need to order up another Pan-European mega-event...
20:47 23rd May 2012 - Link
Except Saturday night. I think I can guess the theme of Saturday night.
20:46 23rd May 2012 - Link
I have even more stories to tell but will parse them out over the rest of the week...a smattering every evening...
20:44 23rd May 2012 - Link
Anybody out there got any tales of change big or small? Don't have to have happy endings, even if stuff doesn't work out the story is good
20:41 23rd May 2012 - Link
@FumballyExch Tis all true :)
20:40 23rd May 2012 - Link
I mentioned @ccferrie earlier - a brilliant tweeter as well as an amazing architect - I exhort you to follow him. And he plays the banjo.
20:38 23rd May 2012 - Link
When I say amazing jewelry I mean it, filipvanas.com , and he is part of a design collective too @Project51Dublin
20:36 23rd May 2012 - Link
Another great story is that of @filipvanas - Czech architect, got the boot from the practice, became an amazing jewellery designer
20:32 23rd May 2012 - Link
@TButterly Cheers!
20:31 23rd May 2012 - Link
@AutumnArtsCraft Brilliant, brilliant - hope he is successful whatever he does :D
20:27 23rd May 2012 - Link
. @TButterly ...and the lack of money was REALLY stressful. However, I was toying with doing an MBA, the bubble bursting was the final push
20:26 23rd May 2012 - Link
. @TButterly I had done a part-time postgrad a couple of years earlier so had a bit of study practice. But the volume of work was huge...
20:24 23rd May 2012 - Link
For example @Geomizosi and @ccferrie both have established themselves as independent architects, collaborated on a new GAA HQ in New York
20:19 23rd May 2012 - Link
the @FumballyExch is a thriving working community and what is also amazing is that they collaborate on each other's projects...
20:18 23rd May 2012 - Link
More people have joined @FumballyExch since then and they have won social entrepreneurship awards for what they have built
20:16 23rd May 2012 - Link
Negotiated a good deal for a floor of the building and set about, with a core few, setting up a shared working studio called @FumballyExch
20:14 23rd May 2012 - Link
When the practice finally went under, what we they all to do? One of them, the redoubtable @Geomizosi spoke to the building's landlord...
20:10 23rd May 2012 - Link
The first story I'm going to tell is about a group of my colleagues from the architecture firm I worked at...
20:09 23rd May 2012 - Link
So there you go, a bit of context...
20:08 23rd May 2012 - Link
Finished the MBA, job hunting, first time interviewing in over 10 years! Offered a management consultant job in @accenture_irl - hurray!
20:07 23rd May 2012 - Link
And prepared a life raft...got a scholarship to do an MBA in UCD. Brilliant, exhausting, tough, inspiring. Stressful time, little money.
20:05 23rd May 2012 - Link
We all know what happened, the construction bubble burst. I, and many of my colleagues, made redundant. I had seen it coming though...
20:04 23rd May 2012 - Link
Worked for big architecture firm, for 10 years. Promoted over the years to marketing manager. Loved my job, fab colleagues, brilliant work.
20:02 23rd May 2012 - Link
To kick off let me tell you about what happened to me. Told my story earlier this week but will give a short recap...
20:01 23rd May 2012 - Link
They may not have chosen the way life has gone but they are doing some pretty amazing stuff...
19:59 23rd May 2012 - Link
I promised to tweet about people I know who have experienced big changes in their life because of the recession...
19:56 23rd May 2012 - Link
@ccferrie The meat sweats Joe calls it!
19:56 23rd May 2012 - Link
@tankesaft @reneegoth Me too!
19:55 23rd May 2012 - Link
@EricBelistan Merci!
19:39 23rd May 2012 - Link
My teen is complaining that he is a twitter orphan...
19:38 23rd May 2012 - Link
@minus1cjb Aurora is coming on her chariot! (my son is a classics nerd, its all about the Greeks)
19:35 23rd May 2012 - Link
Ok, I'm being appallingly Dublin-centric. Sorry for your bad weather troubles.
19:34 23rd May 2012 - Link
Its not my imagination, everybody is cheerier on a lovely sunny day, aren't they?
19:32 23rd May 2012 - Link
@JohnMc707 Grand pair of arms
19:32 23rd May 2012 - Link
@m2thefizzle Oh noes!
19:31 23rd May 2012 - Link
Here is a little present for you all because you are brilliant youtube.com/watch?v=7kkDrm…
19:24 23rd May 2012 - Link
Really enjoyed the conversation about creativity earlier - yis are all brilliant!
19:23 23rd May 2012 - Link
@droghedafoodie I hear you! I remember the lack of sleep when the teen was a baby...felt like torture...which it is...
19:22 23rd May 2012 - Link
@tankesaft @reneegoth @OpenIDEO I'm a big fan of Ideo but thats the first time I've seen openideo.com Thanks for sharing!
19:18 23rd May 2012 - Link
How is everyone this balmy Irish evening?
19:18 23rd May 2012 - Link
Evening all...
13:03 23rd May 2012 - Link
Talk later people of twitter!
13:01 23rd May 2012 - Link
. @darran Thats me, bleedin' Dub
13:01 23rd May 2012 - Link
And I hope to hear some of your stories - of big or small change - as we all cope with the bad stuff...
13:00 23rd May 2012 - Link
Tune in later this evening when I will be sharing some inspiring stories of people adapting to new employment and economic realities...
12:55 23rd May 2012 - Link
Coming to the end of my lunch sojourn with you all...
12:51 23rd May 2012 - Link
@SimonPRepublic @conorjh @JellybobUK I am a regular user and they are jalopies - hence the no stealing...
12:45 23rd May 2012 - Link
@conorjh @SimonPRepublic @JellybobUK I think everybody was taken by surprise when the Dublin bikes weren't nicked en masse
12:43 23rd May 2012 - Link
@conorjh Hello Conor, by the way :)
12:43 23rd May 2012 - Link
@conorjh @SimonPRepublic @JellybobUK Sounds like a good theory...
12:40 23rd May 2012 - Link
@VelvetAvenger23 Want to share your new business here? Or is it too early...
12:39 23rd May 2012 - Link
@sharononeill @caitrionamcb @gazzachef Have to say, I love bacon and cabbage...
12:38 23rd May 2012 - Link
@monasterium That is incredible
12:38 23rd May 2012 - Link
. @FumballyExch @failte_ireland @Geomizosi I remember it well! Would have been a fab addition to the city!
12:35 23rd May 2012 - Link
. @conorjh thats interesting and a good point to make, I'm assuming that the success will autonmatically transplant with the system
12:33 23rd May 2012 - Link
. @anthonymcg I know but, why not back then when they were already tearing up the streets and we were awash in tax revenue
12:31 23rd May 2012 - Link
If I was Dictator of Ireland I would also say education could do with a good dose of creative thinking...especially secondary...
12:29 23rd May 2012 - Link
@VelvetAvenger23 I really like mind-maps, used them when studying and found them very effective. but only if I drew them myself...
12:28 23rd May 2012 - Link
Why do we not have Dublin bikes in all the cities and big towns in Ireland? Sponsored by local businesses if one big sponsor can't be found
12:26 23rd May 2012 - Link
Sorry in advance for being Dublin-centric, but not joining up the Luas lines???Wha??
12:24 23rd May 2012 - Link
. @tisJames Absolutely! Public transport in Ireland has stuttered in terms of creative thinking
12:20 23rd May 2012 - Link
What area of life in Ireland (or the world) would benefit the most from applying creative thinking? *ducks head, waits for barrage*
12:17 23rd May 2012 - Link
My typing and spelling is a bit sloppy twitter peeps, I'm sorry..just so eager to tweet and chat that my fingers don't go fast enough...
12:15 23rd May 2012 - Link
I think everybody can be taught to be creative - they can be taught a creative or design process that would help them in all they do
12:13 23rd May 2012 - Link
I was lucky to have creative training so am familiar with a design/creative process...it is invaluable to me everyday in my business career
12:11 23rd May 2012 - Link
Being creative isn't an excuse not to be rigorous about your ideas - you still have to analyse and unterrogate but at the right time
12:10 23rd May 2012 - Link
. @ODArchitects Don't get me wrong - I'm a big fan of the academic process and rigor - you are spot on about the balance
12:08 23rd May 2012 - Link
@mebaroo Ken Robinson rocks
12:07 23rd May 2012 - Link
Being given space to get things wrong and (my word of the week) adapt is sooo important when being creative in whatever you do
12:05 23rd May 2012 - Link
@mebaroo YES!!
12:05 23rd May 2012 - Link
@melhyria @Isejael Mood can mean you create "better" but I'm a firm believer in a creative process that you drive whatever your mood
12:03 23rd May 2012 - Link
I think secondary school is a big part of it, traditional exams especially. The focus on points and regurge - you get what you measure!
12:01 23rd May 2012 - Link
@PeopleofLeeds @TweetweekUSA @sweden @newzealand @peopleofhgt @tweetweeknyc Brilliant, sun shining in Dublin's fair city
12:00 23rd May 2012 - Link
@ReneeGoth @tankesaft I'm asking!
11:58 23rd May 2012 - Link
@psneeze *snaps a z*
11:56 23rd May 2012 - Link
And can anybody be creative? Or do you have to be a creative type?
11:55 23rd May 2012 - Link
@jabit Trying to challenge the idea that creativity is confined to the arts...most people would agree but think its good to articulate
11:53 23rd May 2012 - Link
When most people reference creativity they think of the arts - I think there is a need to widen the definition so it applies to more...
11:51 23rd May 2012 - Link
Here is a little present for you all - the reason for my "mostly eating" phrase youtube.com/watch?v=h-z5T8…
11:50 23rd May 2012 - Link
@EyeBlinks youtube.com/watch?v=h-z5T8… :D
11:44 23rd May 2012 - Link
@PurpleTravel tis yummy
11:44 23rd May 2012 - Link
@bigrig480 Nice one...
11:44 23rd May 2012 - Link
Is creativity confined to the arts? Can creativity and creative thinking help in business, society, government?
11:43 23rd May 2012 - Link
So thought for the day; we hear about how the Irish are creative people and we need to tap into this now - can creativity save Ireland?
11:40 23rd May 2012 - Link
@AilishDrake Yes, you can do that, though I may supplement in my own words :)
11:40 23rd May 2012 - Link
@TweetweekUSA @sweden @newzealand @PeopleofLeeds @PeopleofHGT @TweetWeekNYC Good afternoon from SUNNY Dublin
11:39 23rd May 2012 - Link
@travors BOTH!
11:38 23rd May 2012 - Link
@thatdirtybirdy Good idea for a topic, I will check out you doc later :)
11:38 23rd May 2012 - Link
Hello lunchtime twitter folk. Today I will be mostly eating a homemade burger and salad.
07:55 23rd May 2012 - Link
Ok, work time. Anybody up for sharing lunch over twitter later today?
07:54 23rd May 2012 - Link
@matt_rupert decided I loved the russian grannies, after a period of stunned silence as my brain tried to process them...
07:52 23rd May 2012 - Link
My 9am call has been delayed 30 mins which means I have some time to gather myself. Morning getting better.
07:51 23rd May 2012 - Link
@caitrionamcb ommmmm
06:51 23rd May 2012 - Link
@m2thefizzle aaaaaghhhhh!
06:51 23rd May 2012 - Link
Now the teen has lost his keys. Late. Fume.
06:32 23rd May 2012 - Link
@psneeze oh yes!
06:32 23rd May 2012 - Link
@mtobinod good night Meg, have a good sleep :)
06:26 23rd May 2012 - Link
Ended up having to roar at the teen to get him out of bed. Not the greatest start, lost my zen-like calm.
05:57 23rd May 2012 - Link
@grasscraig Max temps 18-20 degrees today! The Irish are going to go nuts!!
05:54 23rd May 2012 - Link
@garethoconnor Morning Gareth, hope all is well with you
05:54 23rd May 2012 - Link
Donning kevlar gear to venture in and wake the sleeping teen.
05:51 23rd May 2012 - Link
Good morning all. It's looking like a beautiful day out today in Wickla...
21:57 22nd May 2012 - Link
Ok, thats it from me tonight, my brain is sludge, too much sugary euro-pop. You are all wonderful and I will talk to you tomorrow...
21:50 22nd May 2012 - Link
Teen is safely tucked up in bed, nearly getting to that point myself...
21:40 22nd May 2012 - Link
Teen asleep on the couch. Told ya.
21:38 22nd May 2012 - Link
Oh, my cousin @ericlalor is on Craig Doyle tonight. Now HE is funny, I promise you that. And he loves everyone.
21:36 22nd May 2012 - Link
And I'm still looking for your stories of adaptation, or tea drinking, or European mega-events...
21:34 22nd May 2012 - Link
Its not a coincidence that they are all bleedin' architects, one of the worst hit professions of the recession...
21:32 22nd May 2012 - Link
Landscape architects and urban designers who grow amazing spuds...
21:32 22nd May 2012 - Link
Architects who have stayed being architects but are doing their own thing instead...
21:31 22nd May 2012 - Link
Architects who have become graphic/web/brand designers...
21:30 22nd May 2012 - Link
Architects who have become jewelry designers...
21:30 22nd May 2012 - Link
I'll be telling you about a group of people making their own working community...
21:29 22nd May 2012 - Link
So I think its too late to start tweeting about change and stuff...so I will set you all up with a taster for tomorrow night...
21:19 22nd May 2012 - Link
Mega-EVENTS. *Sigh* I have bad fingers.
21:18 22nd May 2012 - Link
Are there any other Pan-European mega-vents on tonight or will I just crack on?
21:16 22nd May 2012 - Link
@LucerneBelle Oh? I thought it looked well dodgy so am not surprised. My "lovely" quip was weak sarcasm :/
21:11 22nd May 2012 - Link
@InfoatHappy You are not alone ;)
21:05 22nd May 2012 - Link
Will I start tweeting about adaptation, change etc or are we all too giddy?
21:03 22nd May 2012 - Link
@FumballyExch Was that sarcasm? Am I going to have to come over to you?
21:02 22nd May 2012 - Link
So on the twin bombshells of the Grannies and Jedward we leave the Eurovision for the night...
21:01 22nd May 2012 - Link
Does the Azerbaijan logo have an oil well in it? Lovely.
20:58 22nd May 2012 - Link
High five!
20:56 22nd May 2012 - Link
GRANNIES!!!!!!
20:54 22nd May 2012 - Link

20:52 22nd May 2012 - Link
@FumballyExch @gaff0 I am a leaf on the breeze...
20:51 22nd May 2012 - Link
@PinkThouse Right top 5 songs; Paranoid Android, Hyperballad, Heart of Gold, Sweet Thing
20:49 22nd May 2012 - Link
If we win the Eurovision we MUST get @Gaff0 to present it. Superb Eurovision credentials, but thats a story for another night...
20:46 22nd May 2012 - Link
@PinkThouse Hmmm, there are so many songs I love. Can I do a top 5?
20:44 22nd May 2012 - Link
And it wouldn't be a "West Side Story" type of fight. There would be wigs on the green.
20:42 22nd May 2012 - Link
If them lot in Azerbaijan and Riverdance were in a fight Riverdance would totally kick their arses.
20:40 22nd May 2012 - Link
@PinkThouse A Eurovision song? What could I have done to deserve that?
20:39 22nd May 2012 - Link
Ah, the cultural interlude in the Eurovision...
20:38 22nd May 2012 - Link
@soligblomma ESC :)
20:36 22nd May 2012 - Link
The teen is giving the Austrians his vote.
20:36 22nd May 2012 - Link
@m2thefizzle She must be wired on all that caffeine!
20:33 22nd May 2012 - Link
Right, who are you all voting for?
20:30 22nd May 2012 - Link
Here endeth the tea tweets.
20:30 22nd May 2012 - Link
He combined tea and hot chocolate. And called it "chea". Also the taste of evil.
20:29 22nd May 2012 - Link
Terrible tea story 2. My son surprises me with a cup of tea in bed one morning. I taste it. He tells me it is his new invention....
20:28 22nd May 2012 - Link
The taste of evil.
20:28 22nd May 2012 - Link
Years ago, was trekking in Nepal and I was offered some Tibetan tea. Tibetan tea has a lump of salty, fermented yak butter melting in it...
20:26 22nd May 2012 - Link
Ok, boring bit so I'll tell my really thrilling, horrible tea stories...
20:21 22nd May 2012 - Link
Aren't they great lads altogether!
20:21 22nd May 2012 - Link
@JackNalyad Better than the grannies? Noooooo!
20:16 22nd May 2012 - Link

20:15 22nd May 2012 - Link

20:12 22nd May 2012 - Link
I'm still reeling from the grannies...
20:12 22nd May 2012 - Link
Sounds like they are saying a bold word...
20:11 22nd May 2012 - Link
@FumballyExch @ccferrie SALLY
20:10 22nd May 2012 - Link
@IreHappyNews A SOFT LANDING!
20:09 22nd May 2012 - Link
For those with no access to telly coverage of the Eurovision, the Russian entry was about 6 grannies dancing and singing to techno...
20:07 22nd May 2012 - Link
Rationalisation - the Eurovision is important to Ireland and the Irish, therefore its ok that I tweet about it.
20:06 22nd May 2012 - Link
@unakavanagh It will be on youtube in about 20 seconds if there is any justice...
20:06 22nd May 2012 - Link
@jabit I'm still in shock
20:04 22nd May 2012 - Link
I have surrendered to the Eurovision, it was the techno-grannies. They were magnificent.
20:01 22nd May 2012 - Link
@ZUFLAZ You should see the Russian techno-grannies on now...
20:01 22nd May 2012 - Link
um
20:01 22nd May 2012 - Link
@jabit well, a night in...
20:00 22nd May 2012 - Link
@monasterium I would agree. I suppose when I say "New Ireland"I mean different very fast...
19:59 22nd May 2012 - Link
Successfully negotiated with the teen to put the Eurovision on, he can stay up till 11.30pm (he will fall asleep at 10.15 on the couch)
19:54 22nd May 2012 - Link
@monasterium There are moments when I am nostalgic the the cockiness of the Celtic Tiger...
19:48 22nd May 2012 - Link

19:46 22nd May 2012 - Link
@matt_rupert Israeli entry=knock off B52s
19:45 22nd May 2012 - Link

19:40 22nd May 2012 - Link
@matt_rupert I've just sent my teen to the shops so am going to see whats happening...I'll let you know if anything good happens...
19:39 22nd May 2012 - Link

19:37 22nd May 2012 - Link

19:32 22nd May 2012 - Link
@ccferrie BOOM!
19:31 22nd May 2012 - Link
@monasterium I remember the lovely German girl who sang on both German and English...like hands reaching out in friendship across a divide
19:30 22nd May 2012 - Link
@delphotonet Its banned by the teen here :( I dare not overrule or who knows what I might have to watch in the future...
19:29 22nd May 2012 - Link
@ccferrie butter on the spuds...
19:25 22nd May 2012 - Link
@kid_143 Depends on the industry...
19:25 22nd May 2012 - Link
They couldn't believe it...the ONLY Irish person who didn't know what Riverdance was...ah, the innocence...
19:24 22nd May 2012 - Link
...that he had broken his arm doing the Riverdance in the kitchen. They all laughed. I asked "what is Riverdance?"...
19:21 22nd May 2012 - Link
...and I was out with my friends. One of my friends was talking about a guy who had called up Gerry Ryan that morning to tell him...
19:20 22nd May 2012 - Link
the year of Riverdance I was living in London. Didn't watch it, didn't know we won or anything. Came home over the summer...
19:19 22nd May 2012 - Link
All the songs, except King Johnny's, were very different. And we kind of one twice one year with a song and some dancing...

@scarie There is an embargo in my house. The teen says no.
19:14 22nd May 2012 - Link

@NonyFitz @beatingblog We should take away his Irish passport!
12:43 22nd May 2012 - Link
People can get indignant about being offered a cup of tea during bad times or upsets. But I appreciate it and take it as a token of caring.
12:42 22nd May 2012 - Link
@melhyria True, thinking of the Japanese tea ritual though thats all about perfection.

12:26 22nd May 2012 - Link
The cup of tea is very important as a cultural artifact in Ireland. Used for comfort, socialising and a stimulant! Why is it so important?
12:23 22nd May 2012 - Link
@darklightfest Don't have any :(

22:23 21st May 2012 - Link

22:22 21st May 2012 - Link

22:20 21st May 2012 - Link
@len_patrick @maoiliosak Thats the good f-word according to Mrs Doyle
22:14 21st May 2012 - Link
One thing I miss from my @maoiliosak account is being able to introduce a swear word to improve the cadence of a sentence. Must. Not. Swear.
22:11 21st May 2012 - Link
@garethoconnor Thank you too!
22:10 21st May 2012 - Link

Coming to the end of my first day on @ireland I'm a tired one now. But its been amazing, thank you all for chatting, hope I wasn't jibbering
21:57 21st May 2012 - Link
@pauljcorcoran I like that, integrity is feeling scared and worried as much as feeling confident and strong. Its being honest.
21:55 21st May 2012 - Link
@ka1ssr tell me more...
21:52 21st May 2012 - Link
@Ziggystarduster hehehehhehe
21:49 21st May 2012 - Link
A "daftie" is a silly person, the word has a scottish origin. Got burnt earlier with my use of the phrase "a few bob"
21:46 21st May 2012 - Link
I am naturally optimistic, just don't want to give the impression that I am one of those "positive thinking" dafties
21:44 21st May 2012 - Link
Just to be clear, I really hate the tyranny of positive thinking, the kind that blames YOU for "negativity" if bad things happen
21:37 21st May 2012 - Link
@Ziggystarduster Go on girl!
21:35 21st May 2012 - Link
@Ziggystarduster I know, I want to never forget that feeling so that I will always appreciate what I have...
21:28 21st May 2012 - Link
@Ziggystarduster Thank you Anna, hope you join the conversation :)
21:27 21st May 2012 - Link
Tomorrow I'm going to start sharing some stories of adaptation of my friends and ex-collegues. That @FumballyExch RT is just the beginning
21:20 21st May 2012 - Link
@ZUFLAZ I really am, getting into the groove...
21:19 21st May 2012 - Link
@magnumlady @delphotonet I am but I hate the tyranny of positivity- suggests if bad things happen to you its cos you weren't positive enough
21:12 21st May 2012 - Link
@macfarbt Tell me more!
21:11 21st May 2012 - Link

20:58 21st May 2012 - Link
@globatris @mkearley2008 It never occured to me that "a few bob" was a peculiarly Irish phrase :)
20:55 21st May 2012 - Link
@eoinkernan Yup, its really tough. The hardest is not knowing if you will get there...or even knowing what "there" is! Whats your story?
20:48 21st May 2012 - Link
@brendamannion Where did you move to in the US? When did you go?
20:47 21st May 2012 - Link
@brendamannion I remember at one point in 2009 I changed my radio alarm from Morning Ireland to Lyric - just couldn't take it anymore...
20:43 21st May 2012 - Link
@brendamannion Aha, you are probably right. I think a big Frontline is on about the Treaty too...
20:42 21st May 2012 - Link
Change is easier when its only you on the line..when you are responsible for another person it can be too hard to choose, was forced on me
20:40 21st May 2012 - Link
@brendamannion Thanks Brenda! Its all gotten a bit quiet though...
20:40 21st May 2012 - Link
@cathalkeogh My car was stolen 8 months ago. It had died, I was getting scrappage. They drove it down to the end of my road and dumped it!
20:38 21st May 2012 - Link
So having to change and adapt isn't always good. There were times when I was petrified...anybody out there have a similar experience?
20:35 21st May 2012 - Link
@cathalkeogh Oh no! And just when you need it too!
20:32 21st May 2012 - Link
@cathalkeogh It was busy but good. Could do with another 8 hours to get everything done...How was your day?
20:30 21st May 2012 - Link

Zombie-grannies on the rampage. Oh Father Ted, how much do I love thee!
20:10 21st May 2012 - Link
@miss_susanboyle Hmmm, to be honest never heard of him/her...but have rt-ed your tweet. Will you tell me when you find out?
20:08 21st May 2012 - Link
@iam_pakistan To use a peculiarly Irish phrase - we are in bits laughing!
20:02 21st May 2012 - Link
My son is happy, an unscheduled Father Ted is on the telly tonight. "Night of the nearly dead" - the Daniel O' Donnell one.
20:01 21st May 2012 - Link
@elainelarkin Thanks Elaine...
19:58 21st May 2012 - Link
@wholesomeIE If there is one thing I have learnt, you never know what you will be doing in a few years. You may put those suits to use yet!

19:39 21st May 2012 - Link
So now, I've spilles my guts - what about you lot?
19:38 21st May 2012 - Link
But I will never forget the experience of redundancy - no matter how you rationalise it you feel rejected and it impacts your confidence
19:37 21st May 2012 - Link
Applied for a job @accenture_irl and after some gruelling interviews they offered me a job! Six months later and loving my job...
19:32 21st May 2012 - Link

19:30 21st May 2012 - Link
