In 5 years time I hope that we will have a community house where we can run a youth service, breakfast & homework clubs, mother & toddler

The #summerproject is only part of the bigger picture of my involvement in the community & the move towards change for the better.

Chat this morning is revolving around the #summerproject & a family member who recently passed away.

Eating together (breaking bread) is one of the most basic ways of communing with others.

Family is very important to us. In a way it's one of the bedrocks for community.

We all come up to my husband's parents' home to chat & catch up.

Sunday morning tradition in our family is to meet up for brunch.

We always set out to do a project with no funding (but it helps). If community based funding stopped, we'd still run a #summerproject

They know if they have a problem they can talk to responsible adults, are more likely to want to help in cleaning the estate for example.

The kids respect where they live & their neighbours that bit more. Levels of antisocial behaviour have significantly decreased here.

I'm so proud of what we do & I wish that we could engage with more kids & volunteers. It really makes a difference. #summerproject

In saying all of that we've had a few messages today from other leaders celebrating the great week we've had. It makes it all worthwhile.

Airport security officer, retail worker, childcare worker & more. The only criteria to being involved is time, Garda clearance & training.

Part of our funding comes from @fingalcoco part from CDVEC. The rest is from a fee we charge for participating.

We're insured via the CYC who also assist us with child protection issues & running some of our activities.

All volunteers are Garda vetted & complete child protection training. Some do sports & first aid training with @fingalcoco

@Foroige morning! Fun week ahead as you'll know. My group are 7-14 years. Officially starting tomorrow.

@ClaireNolan it is & we are insured. There is loads of organisation goes on in the background. ;-)

@JohnGNolan we have loads of child protection regs, Garda clearance & time constraints too!

It's very topical as we've found that levels of anti-social behaviour are lower with the kids we've engaged with in the #summerproject

The kids/youth are age mainly 7-14 years of age. Volunteers are neighbours & friends, all who want to make a difference.

Officially starting tomorrow I run a 2 week #summerproject with nearly 40 kids, 10 volunteers & loads of activities.

Dig a bit deeper though: A #summerproject is about building communities, friendships & supports in an area.

So what is a Summer Project? A group of volunteers come together to provide summer activities for local kids. That's the idea anyway.
